Project: Gelb Science Center, Phillips Academy
Client:
Phillips Academy
Location: Andover, Massachusetts
Description:
The new Gelb Science Center is being built on granite that is only a few
feet below the ground’s surface. Due to the extensive granite on the site,
the radon emission levels were at dangerous levels and needed to be
controlled. Resicon was hired by the architect and the Academy to
design and monitor the construction of the radon barrier
system to completely mitigate the penetration of this gas into new building space.
The innovative design saved long-term energy and mechanical equipment costs by
guaranteeing a completely radon-free space requiring no powered underslab venting.
