| Project: New Offices, Simpson Gumpertz and Heger Engineers Client:
Saracen Development Location: Waltham, Massachusetts
Description:
Raytheon built a complex of buildings some 65 years ago that were being converted
into high quality office space in 2001. Environmental standards and the understanding of the
effects of ground pollution were not well understood in the 1930’s, and the site became
polluted with VOC's and other chemicals. While the cleanup was effective, tenants wanted
further protection from any possible contamination in the workspace.
Resicon was hired
by the developer and SGH to provide design and construction of a VOC barrier system
that would be applied to the existing floors and wall bases of the 60,000 s.f. space.
Innovative fluorinated membranes, urethane and epoxy coatings and 100 percent solids
tapes were used in this VOC barrier system to seal the edges of the space and the
areas around the columns.
- Building: Original Raytheon plant
and buildings.
